The steering ball joints form the link between the rack and pinion, the track rods and the wheel. Combined with the suspension ball joints, they allow the direction of the wheel to be changed. Admittedly, steering ball joints rarely need to be changed, but they should be checked every 100,000 km all the same. Symptoms of a worn steering ball joint become apparent while driving: difficulty turning, reduced traction while turning, vibration, and clunking noises.
The suspension ball joints link the control arms to the steering knuckles and wheels. Unlike steering ball joints, suspension ball joints deteriorate more.
